Ready to go diving in Central America?

In this blog, I will be telling you about different dive sites in Central America, from Belize to Costa Rica, Honduras and Mexico. Belize is situated right in the heart of Central America, enjoys a Caribbean climate, lush rainforest, beautiful cayes, atolls and the largest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere. There are 3 large coral atolls in Belize that offer the world’s best scuba diving; they are:

  • Turneffe Island – the largest atoll of 30miles long made up of 20 islands and several lagoons
  • Lighthouse Reef – 25miles long, and is the smallest of atolls which surrounds The Blue Hole
  • Glover Reef Atoll – Fabulous diving with sloping walls, full of marine life

Costa Rica certainly lives up to its name, ‘The Rich Coast’, for its ideal weather and rich marine life on both the Pacific and Caribbean Coast. A World Heritage site, the famous Cocos Marine Park is the best place to see sharks in Costa Rica, the thriving marine life here includes many different sharks, mantas and rays, tropical fish, huge tuna and turtles.

Mexico has some of the most beautiful beaches and spectacular diving opportunities in the world, from colourful reefs, to the unique underwater Cenotes caves which Mexico is famous for. Whale sharks travel though the Gulf of Mexico and are often accompanied by giant rays and dolphins. Most divers head to Bay Islands, Northern Honduras. There are seven main islands and many small cayes which are apart of the second largest living reef covered with bright corals and tropical fish.
